Allison Janney goes full John Wick (video)
Of all the actors in recent months and years who have tried to transform into John Wick in punishing, stylized action films, Allison Janney in her new film “Lou” is perhaps the most surprising transformation to date. .
Janney directs the Netflix action movie “Lou” which also stars Jurnee Smollett and Logan Marshall-Green and is produced by JJ Abrams.
In the film, she plays a woman named Lou with a dangerous and mysterious past living in the peaceful Pacific Northwest and whose only companion (you guessed it John Wick fans) is her dog. As a huge storm threatens to hit the community, Lou’s neighbor (Smollett) begs her to help save his kidnapped daughter, unaware of Lou’s many secrets.
This first trailer for the film, however, shows some of Janney’s biting wit paired with punishing hand-to-hand combat, especially after she gets into a fight with some thugs in an isolated cabin.
“Things are… escalated,” she says in the clip.
Janney did many of his own stunts in “Lou” and worked with Charlize Theron and Halle Berry’s own fight choreographer from “Atomic Blonde” and “John Wick” in particular, 87Eleven’s Daniel Bernhardt.
“Lou” is directed by Anna Foerster who makes her directorial debut from a script by Maggie Cohn and Jack Stanley, with Bad Robot’s JJ Abrams, Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen producing. Janney and Smollett also produced the film.
Check out the first trailer for “Lou” above, which debuts on Netflix on September 23.
