Chris Pine Sets Mystery Comedy Film ‘Poolman’ as First Director – Up News Info

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Chris Pine is set to make his directorial debut with a mystery comedy titled “Poolman.”

According to Deadline, the 41-year-old actor will also star in the film alongside veteran actors Annette Bening and Danny DeVito.

“Poolman” is billed as a cross between Jeff Bridges star “The Big Lebowski” and classic LA noir movies, with a hint of Damian Chazelle’s “La La Land.”

Pine will play Darren Barrenman, a hapless dreamer and aspiring philosopher who spends his days tending to the pool at the Tahitian Tiki building in sunny Los Angeles and hosting city council meetings with his neighbors Jack (DeVito) and Diana (Bening).

“When Barrenman uncovers the biggest water heist in LA history since ‘Chinatown’, he forges uneasy alliances with a beautiful and connected femme fatale while following every possible lead with corrupt city officials, burnt-out Hollywood types and mysterious benefactors all in the name of protecting his precious Los Angeles,” the official plotline.

Filmmaker Patty Jenkins, who worked with Pine on two “Wonder Woman” films as well as the “I Am the Night” series, will serve as one of the project’s producers.

Pine co-wrote with actor Barry Linen Motion Pictures’ production banner partner Ian Gotler.

The two will produce with Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny Productions and Jenkins for Wicious Pictures.

Pine will next star in Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry Darling,” starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, and the highly anticipated film adaptation of “Dungeons & Dragons.”

He will also star in “The Contractor”, a thriller starring Kiefer Sutherland and Ben Foster.
