Christian Slater joins John Cena in independent action-comedy movie

According to Deadline, Golden Globe winner Christian Slater has been tapped to join the upcoming action-comedy flick Freelance, which had just started production in Colombia. He will join previously announced cast members John Cena (The Suicide Squad), Alison Brie (GLOW)and Juan Pablo Raba (33).

Freelance will be led by Taken filmmaker Pierre Morel from a screenplay written by Jacob Lentz. It will be produced by AGC Studios and Endurance Media, who are co-funding the project. It will be produced by Steve Richard of Endurance Media, alongside Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin of Sentient Entertainment.

“The film centers on a former special forces operator who, desperate to escape his monotonous life, takes a job providing security for a journalist who hopes to save her career by interviewing a dictator,” reads the synopsis. “Things go awry when a military coup breaks out mid-interview, and the mismatched duo, along with the dictator, escape into the jungle where they must survive the military chasing them, the animals chasing them. hunt and among themselves.”

Slater is critically acclaimed for his Golden Globe-winning role in USA Network’s thriller series Mister Robot, which aired for four seasons from 2015 to 2019.
