Michigan’s favorite romance movie is ‘Her,’ a love story between man and machine

When it comes to romance movies, Michigan prefers a love story between a man and his computer.

According to a study conducted by StreamingObserver.com titled “The romantic movie your state is most obsessed with” Michigan locals love the 2013 Oddball movie “His.”

Directed by Spike Jonze and starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson, the film is set in the near future and tells the story of a lonely writer who develops an unlikely relationship with an operating system designed to meet all his needs.

The film was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, winning Best Writing for the original screenplay.

Streaming Observer, which tracks developments in streaming technology, used data from Rotten Tomatoes and other public sources to compile the most popular romance movies of all time in honor of Valentine’s Day.

The team then teamed up with Mindnet Analytics and used Google Trends data to determine which romantic movie each state was most obsessed with compared to other states.

Mississippi is the only state other than Michigan that favors “Elle,” according to the data.

Other romantic films that several states have favored include “Ghost”, “It Happened One Night”, “Sense and Sensibility”, Silver Linings Playbook”, “The African Queen” and “Titanic”.

Wyoming prefers Brokeback Mountain where the film is set, Arizona likes Jerry Macguire where parts of the film are shot, and Pennsylvania likes The Philadelphia Story.

Overall, Titanic is the most searched romantic movie in the United States. New York, Massachusetts and California are respectively the top three states interested in romantic films, while Michigan ranks 27th in terms of interest.

Mississippi is the least affected by romantic films, followed by South Carolina and West Virginia.
