Saoirse Ronan to star in biopic drama The Outrun
According to Variety, Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan has signed on for the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of Overtaking, based on Amy Liptrot’s bestselling memoir of the same name. Ronan will play a character inspired by Liptrot, who was renamed Rona in the film.

Overtaking will be directed by acclaimed German filmmaker Nora Fingscheidt, who helmed Netflix’s 2021 drama the unforgivable. It is co-authored by Fingscheidt and Liptrot.

“The film centers on Rona, a woman recently released from rehab who returns home to the wild islands of Orkney in Scotland after being away for over a decade,” reads the synopsis. “There, she reconnects with the dramatic landscape where she grew up. As Rona lingers in Orkney, she begins to piece together her childhood, the memories of which become intertwined with the more recent difficult events that set her on the path to recovery.
It will be produced by Ronan, Jack Lowden and Dominic Norris through their Arcade Pictures banner; Ignacio Salazar-Simpson and Ricardo Marco from Mogambo; and Jonas Weydemann and Jakob D. Weydemann of Weydemann Bros. The film is produced by Protagonist Pictures, with production from Brock Media.
